This position falls under the USW union contract. The starting hourly pay for this position is $19.08 per hour. Below is the outline of our current wage structure as outlined in the Citys contract with the United Steelworkers (2022- 2024). This contract is currently under negotiation.
Step 1 Starting hourly wage: $19.08/ hourly $39,703/ annually
Step 2 (After 12 months of service in Step 1): $20.64/ hourly $42,940/ annually
Step 3 (After 12 months of service in Step 2): $22.20/hourly $46,176/ annually
Step 4 (After 12 months of service in Step 3): $23.75/hourly $49,413/ annually
Step 5 (After 12 months of service in Step 4): $25.31/hourly $52,649/ annually
Step 6 (After 12 months of service in Step 5): $26.86/hourly $55,886/ annually Under general supervision of the Facilities Manager, this position is responsible for performing custodial duties in an assigned area, municipal buildings, offices and other associated facilities, in order to maintain the premises in a clean, safe, and orderly condition. Operates a variety of cleaning equipment and utilizes handheld tools. This position will initially work at the Community Center and when The Well (new Hilliard Community Center) opens, will work out of that building.
Normal working hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00AM - 4:30PM. Operates a variety of specialized mechanical and/or electronic equipment utilized to clean offices and other areas of municipal buildings and associated grounds i.e., floor cleaning equipment such as vacuums, auto scrubbers and buffers; power sprayers; leaf and snow blowers. Maintains equipment and ensures equipment is in good operating order through regular inspections. Conducts inventory of supplies and material and informs supervisor of any supply needs. Performs cleaning of buildings and associated grounds that includes activities such as cleaning and sanitizing restroom areas sinks, urinals, toilets, walls, mirrors, and partitions; maintaining supplies in restrooms such as filling soap and paper dispensers; sweeping, waxing floors; dusting and cleaning furniture and upholstery; washing walls, windows, and doors; picking up litter, trash and recycling; and emptying waste/recycling receptacles. Sets up and tears down meeting and class rooms; transports equipment and supplies to/from work areas. Moves office furniture, tables, chairs, voting machines, and other equipment as necessary. Clears sidewalks and entrances of snow, ice, leaves and debris. Ensures proper utilization of safety precautions, including proper barricades and signage when cleaning floors; knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Must continuously and consistently demonstrate the initiative and responsibility to work in an efficient and productive manner with or without direct supervision. Performs on-call custodial services and, when necessary, 24 hours a day for emergencies.
High School diploma or (GED) equivalent. One (1) year experience preferred in performing custodial/janitorial tasks. Possession of a valid State of Ohio operators license.
Must be at least 18 years of age. Background must be free of felony convictions. Ability to demonstrate physical endurance; physical agility to lift, bend, twist, climb, stoop and move objects weighing approximately 50 pounds and lift objects up to 20 pounds overhead; perform light manual labor for extended periods of time. Ability to safely use the necessary tools, supplies and specialized equipment. Ability to operate a variety of light and medium motorized vehicles. Ability to wear and utilize protective clothing and masks as required. Ability to demonstrate dexterity in the use of hands and feet.
