Housekeeper Jobs in District of Columbia
In the hospitality service industry, a Housekeeper is primarily responsible for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene within hotel rooms and public areas. They take care of dusting, vacuuming, making beds, replacing linens, and cleaning bathrooms. In addition, they often serve as the main contact for guest requests during their stay, such as extra towels or bedding. Housekeepers are expected to follow safety and health guidelines to ensure the wellbeing and satisfaction of guests, thus playing a critical role in creating a positive experience for hotel patrons.
A Housekeeper must possess a number of skills, including attention to detail, physical stamina, and a strong work ethic. They must be able to work independently but also as part of a team to ensure all rooms are cleaned and prepared to a high standard. Good communication skills are essential in order to understand and fulfill guest needs and to coordinate effectively with other hotel departments. Though not always required, certifications such as a Certified Executive Housekeeper (CEH) or Registered Executive Housekeeper (REH) are recognized credentials in the industry. Prior roles that might lead to a career as a Housekeeper include being a Room Attendant, Laundry Attendant, or Janitor/Custodian.
